Kremlin’s hypocrisy: Authorities crack down on naked party, overlooking Putin’s visits to strip club

Russian celebrities are forced to publicly apologize for attendance at a private naked party in Moscow amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, but the Russian leader never explained why he had spent nights at a St.Petersburg strip club during the Second Chechen War.

Citing moral degradation at the times of war, Russian authorities are campaigning against several dozens participants at a recent “Almost Naked” party in Moscow, forcing celebrities to issue public apologies and even jailing one of them.

The Kremlin, under the orders of President Vladimir Putin, accused the attendees of the alleged lack of decorum amid the ongoing war with Ukraine.

Yet, beneath the surface of this moral crusade, a stark hypocrisy looms: two decades earlier, Putin himself had indulged in a visit to Luna, a notorious strip club in St. Petersburg. The club, known for its erotic extravaganzas, hosted Putin and several government ministers for a show titled "Moonlight Extravaganza," which featured an "erotic bullfight" and dancers of various tastes.

The authorities, which cracked down on partying celebrities, have turned a blind eye on Putin’s numerous visits to striptease and night clubs.

Express Gazeta, a Russian tabloid, and other outlets said that Putin, then prime minister of Russia, consumed vodka and chatted with girls and customers at Luna on 25 December 1999.

Six days later he will become acting president to replace Boris Yeltsin (and will not stop visiting strip clubs).

This period was the peak of the active combat phase in the Second Chechen War, which started in August 1999 and ended in April 2000. The decade-long war has claimed at least 350,000 lives, mostly civilians, and was marked by severe atrocities and war crimes committed by Russian troops.

While Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, questioned the attendance of celebrities at the party, the same question could be turned back on Putin: What was he doing at Luna 24 years ago? The echoes of Russia's ongoing war with Ukraine and its standoff with the West can be traced back to that pivotal moment.

The Kremlin - and Putin personally - like lecturing Russians about high traditional values and Russia’s special place in the world, contrasting Russian “thriving culture” with the West’s “decadence.” He often emphasizes the importance of family and Orthodox religion. But he knowingly omits to tell his fellow citizens why he divorced his wife Lyudmila in 2013/14 or why he has not married either of mistresses who he has fathered children with.

Putin has three children with former gymnast Alina Kabayeva, a daughter with former cleaning woman Svetlana Krivonogykh, and possible other offspring with other women.

The dictator's latest passion is alleged to be Victoria Lopyreva, a TV personality and Miss Russia 2003.

While he has secret intimate relations that the Russian Orthodox Church would normally condemn and in the West would become a reason to resign, Vladimir Putin still loves watching striptease shows.

His 1.3-billion-dollar palace in Gelendzhik, built on corruption proceeds and kickbacks, has a special room for erotic performances, and the Anti-Corruption Fund of Alexey Navalny exposed the size of Putin’s hypocrisy and lies in two documentaries on this topic: HERE and HERE

The erotic dance pole in the heart of the Gelendzhik palace is the core of the values of the Putin regime.
